We are Barefoot Hearts — a living, free, and democratic educational project nestled in the magical forest of Turís, Valencia. Here, childhood sets the pace. Children aged 3–12 are explorers, inventors, caretakers, and occasional goat whisperers. Instead of textbooks and desks, they have treetops, sandy patches, a run-around track, and an animal sanctuary. Free play is the heart of learning; emotional health is the true foundation; and democracy lives in our daily circles, assemblies, and child-led decisions.
We are searching for a Cantina Chief to join our small, dedicated team and take the lead on feeding our growing community. You will cook healthy, delicious food and manage our Cantina and bar services to welcome more children, parents, and team members. Every meal at Barefoot Hearts is vegan, plant-based, organic, gluten-free, and fully aligned with the values of our project.
What you will do:
- Cook and prepare lunch and daily snacks for the children, and run the Cantina and bar offer (snacks, cakes, tostadas, and similar items) so that parents and team members staying on site can enjoy them.
- Manage the full Cantina operation to help us welcome more kids and grown-ups to our services.
- Handle supply orders, suppliers, and receiving deliveries; keep the kitchen and Cantina clean, organised, and welcoming before and after lunch service.
- Plan meals in advance using our mobile app: define and describe each meal, then publish the week’s plan so parents and the team know what’s on the table.
- Use the app to record supply orders, manage Cantina inventory, and run our inventory market — preparing and tracking baskets of surplus fruits and vegetables that we offer to families.
- Keep the Cantina bar stock and availability up to date in the app and take orders (e.g. one-off Cantina lunches or bar items such as tea, coffee, or cake).
- Lead cooking workshops with the children from time to time, teaching them to cook as part of our educational project.

We are looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about vegan, plant-based, organic, and gluten-free cooking and is committed to those principles in the Cantina.
- Is proficient with mobile applications: you will plan meals, manage inventory, run the inventory market, track bar items, and take orders via our app.
- Is organised, reliable, and cares deeply about cleanliness and order in the kitchen and Cantina.
- Enjoys working with children and is willing to lead occasional cooking workshops so they can learn to cook.
- Can manage suppliers, orders, and deliveries and keep the Cantina running smoothly from 9 to 5.
